Madden NFL 21: The NFL renews its contract with EA

The NFL (National Football League) and Electronic Arts have announced a renewal of their exclusive agreement for video games of the reigning sport in the United States, Madden. "Madden NFL 20 was the most successful title in its franchise history," Cam Weber, EA Sports executive vice president and group general manager, said via email. "Our rapid growth this year changed the industry and was a key role in driving the largest and most far-reaching deal in interactive entertainment for the NFL." NFL Business and Media Director Brian Rolapp explained during a post-meeting conference call with reporters that the process was open to multiple companies, given the changes that have been made to the way they are distributed and played games since the deal was last made. However, EA made "the most compelling case." According to the developer, players grew by 30% for this year, breaking historical records in the franchise that began in 1994. Although the officialization did not speak of the economic amount involved, Darren Rovell of The Action Network said that the agreement is worth at least one billion dollars for the NFL and 500 million for the players. Electronic Arts presented to its investors the results of its fiscal year 2020 and revealed its plans for the fiscal year that runs until the end of March 2021. During all these months, the company has prepared 14 games to release to the public, including Madden NFL 21.
