Madden 21 Cover: Lamar Jackson

EA Sports made public the box art for the Standard, Deluxe, and MVP Editions of Madden 21. In all the covers the star is Lamar Jackson. The art of the cover is very original thanks to COVID-19 restriction. Because of the pandemic, EA Sports was not able to conduct a photo shoot with Jackson. So the publisher worked with the team photographer for Jackson's Baltimore Ravens to use multiple photos of the athlete on the cover. The results are unique and show different sides of Jackson: his determination, his lovely personality and his unique style of play.

The cover of Standard Edition has a group of Lamar Jackson’s pictures overlapping each other with a central image of the player warming up before the Ravens’ Monday Night Football game in Los Angeles last year. The cover of Deluxe Edition shows Jackson spinning the ball in midair. Finally, the cover of the MVP Edition is a black and white portrait of Jackson looks very determined before a game.

Lamar Jackson says in an interview that he reacted very emotionally when he saw the covers for the first time. He’s a big fan of Madden, so it has been really important for him to appear on the cover of Madden 21. Jackson said in the interview: “They revealed to me the cover early. I don’t cry about stuff. I didn’t cry when I won the Heisman, I didn’t cry when I won all the other accolades. But when I saw the cover, I actually shed tears, like, ‘What the? It’s unreal.'”. And he continued saying: “That’s been a dream of mine all my life. I saw all of the greats on it. Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, Donovan McNabb, I’ve seen everybody on it, Gronk too. So for me, I was like man, I want to be on it too.”

Lamar Jackson deserves the cover of Madden 21. He became a superstar last year when he received the Most Valuable Player for his career as a quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. He’s the fourth African-American quarterback to be named MVP.
